Did You Know?
In 2008, WCEL is currently serving 76 eligible children and families per month throughout Whatcom County in our birth to three program.
A developmental delay in a child under three years old may be the result of prematurity, autism, cerebral palsy, Down Syndrome, hearing / vision loss or speech delay.
Most families who have a child with a developmental delay have no other family members with developmental delays.
90% of families at WCEL had good pre-natal care and no risk factors for the pregnancy.
An occupational therapist helps infants and toddlers with physical delays learn to reach for objects, sit, walk and draw with a crayon at preschool.
To be eligible for WCEL’s core services, children are evaluated by early childhood specialists who find out how they are growing and learning by using standardized tests in a way that’s fun for babies.
